Important new reports look at the future of the Smithsonian
The Office of Policy and Analysis has completed two extensive reports: “Lessons for Tomorrow: A Study of Education at the Smithsonian,” and “Addressing Complexity: Fostering Collaboration and Interdisciplinary Research at the Smithsonian.” The education study consists of a summary report and 15 appendices with topics including professional training, leadership, technology, financial resources, and audiences and programs. The purpose of the study is to improve understanding of our education efforts at the Smithsonian as the Institution moves to the next important stage of its development under the leadership of Secretary Wayne Clough.
“Addressing Complexity: Fostering Collaboration and Interdisciplinary Research at the Smithsonian” consists of two volumes: Volume I is a summary study report and Volume II presents detailed findings on the Smithsonian’s comparative advantage and relevance in science; management; funding; barriers to collaboration strategies and other important topics. The report is expected to help harness the contributions of the Smithsonian’s diverse disciplines in moving the Institution forward.
