An agreement is signed with the Heye Foundation for the transfer of the Museum of the American Indian/Heye Foundation’s collection of more than one million objects from the native peoples of North, Central, and South America. The George Gustav Heye Foundation’s collection is transferred to the Smithsonian Institution where it is now part of the  National Museum of the American Indian.
