In a ceremony rededicating the tomb of James Smithson in the Smithsonian Institution Building, Sir Roger Makins, the British ambassador, and Sir John Cockcroft present a Union Jack to be displayed with the Stars and Stripes beside the tomb as a “symbol of international understanding.”
