SI named “Owner of the Year” by contractors’ association

The Smithsonian Institution was named “Owner of the Year” by the Associated General Contractors of Metro DC at the association’s 10th Annual Contractor Awards on Oct. 6. AGC member contractors submit their best projects which are judged by construction industry professions.

AGC member contractors submit their best project which are judged by area owners and construction industry professionals. Awards are presented for projects in in five different project categories:

•             New Construction

•             Interior

•             Heavy/Industrial

•             Renovation/Restoration and

•             Design/Build

The AGC Board chose the Smithsonian Institution as the Owner of the Year because of SI’s work with AGC on Construction Management at-Risk for the National Museum of African American History, Art and Culture and the Institution’s participation in the annual AGC Public Owners Procurement Forum.  CM at-Risk contract maximizes the awareness  among owner, architect/designer and construction manager of all parties’ needs and  expectations so that all may perform their part of the project in the most efficient manner.

Both Bruce Kendall, director of the Office of Facilities Engineering and Operations, and former Acting Director Dottie Leffler were on hand to receive the award.
