“Hide/Seek: Difference and Desire in American Portraiture”—National Portrait Gallery, through Feb. 13, 2011

“Hide/Seek” considers such themes as the role of sexual difference in depicting modern America, how artists explored sexuality and gender, how major themes in modern art were influenced by this form of marginalization and how art reflects society’s evolving and changing attitudes.
