The exhibition “Hugo Robus (1885-1964) opens at the National Collection of Fine Arts, now the Smithsonian American Art Museum.National Museum of American Art, “Hugo Robus (1885- 1964),’ opens. Born in Ohio, Robus later studied in New York City and Paris. Primarily a Cubist painter until 1920, he became a sculptor whose lyrical, expressive style reflected his interest in “pure form,” especially in the human body.The exhibition includes a group of oil paintings never before shown.
