Thomas Jefferson Awards announced

The Virginia Museum of Natural History in Martinsburg, Va., has announced the award recipients for its 24th annual Thomas Jefferson Awards dinner and ceremony to be held April 8 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the museum. Forensic anthropologist Douglas Owsley, division head for Physical Anthropology at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History, will serve as keynote speaker at the event.  His talk is titled “The case of the black widow, and other tales written in bone.”

Owsley also will receive the Thomas Jefferson Medal for Outstanding Contributions to Natural Science. This award is presented to an individual who has consistently made outstanding contributions to natural history.

The Virginia Museum of Natural History’s Thomas Jefferson Awards honor Virginia businesses, groups and individuals for their contributions to and support for natural science and natural science education.
