Interesting encounter with Andrew Young.

Regie Plana-Alcuaz, an information volunteer at the Donald W. Reynolds Center, reports on an interesting encounter she had with civil rights leader and former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Andrew Young.

Ambassador Young gave a lecture at the McEvoy Auditorium prior to the formal presentation of his portrait at National Portrait Gallery April 30. He signed copies of his book  for an hour instead of the scheduled half hour. He also was very accommodating to people who wanted their photos taken with him—every single one. Carol Nippert,VIARC building coordinator; NPG Director Marty Sullivan; and I all had our photos taken with him. I said, “I’m sorry, you must be tired from signing your books.” He replied, “This will strengthen me,” and put his arm around me. “Cheese!”
