Rolling Thunder

Michael Lang, left, director of the Smithsonian Marine Science Network, and John Yahner, speechwriter for the Secretary, participated in the Rolling Thunder Ride for Freedom, Sunday, May 29.

The annual motorcycle rally is held on Memorial Day weekend to help educate the public about prisoners of war and those left missing in action. Originally formed in 1987 by a group of Vietnam veterans, the non-profit Rolling Thunder is committed to helping veterans of all wars.

Technical aside: Mike’s ride is a 1900 cc Yamaha Roadliner;  Yahner’s scoot is a 1200 cc BMW. Photo by Phil Taylor, director of Biological Oceanography for the National Science Foundation and owner of a Moto Guzzi.
