It’s a good thing

The Smithsonian Associates presents an evening with Martha Stewart Thursday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. at DAR Constitution Hall, 1776 D Street N.W. Stewart will make a presentation on entertaining in the home and discuss her influences, inspirations and the continuing evolution of American domestic culture with Marc Pachter, interim director of the National Museum of American History.

As an author, entrepreneur, television host and magazine publisher, Stewart has had a profound impact on American style. By illuminating traditions and reinterpreting them for the modern era, Stewart has forged a unique aesthetic that is reflected in her holistic approach to cuisine, decorative arts and entertaining—the creative elements of the home. As an arbiter of good taste, she has not only pioneered a category of lifestyle, she has elevated the art of everyday living, an approach that has resonated with the American consumer.

Her new book, Martha’s Entertaining: A Year of Celebrations (Clarkson Potter), will be available for signing after the program. Nearly 30 years after publishing the bestseller, Entertaining, which established Stewart as a household name, she returns to the topic that launched her empire.

Ticket prices for the Smithsonian presentation are $35 for general admission and $25 for Associate members. Members may also purchase $60 tickets that include one copy of the book Martha’s Entertaining: A Year of Celebrations. This option is not for sale at the door. General admission tickets are available through Ticketmaster at ticketmaster.com or (800) 745-3000. For Associate member tickets and information call (202) 633-3030 or visit www.smithsonianassociates.org.
