The Museum of Natural History is renamed the National Museum of Natural History, and the Museum of History and Technology becomes the National Museum of History and Technology. The Museums are no longer part of an umbrella organization known as the U.S. National Museum.

This aerial photo from the Washington Monument shows the newly completed Museum of History and Technology, now the National Museum of American History, the construction of the West Wing of the Natural History Building, The National Mall, Constitution Avenue, the Capitol in the distance, and the Smithsonian Institution Building on the right.
