May 2, 1923 The Freer Gallery of Art opens to the public. Invitations went out to 3,300 people for opening week. Attendance between May 9 and June 30 totaled 32,648 visitors.

The photograph shows an aerial view is of the north and east fronts of the Freer Gallery of Art. The Department of Agriculture building at the corner of Independence and 12th Street is to the west of the Gallery. In the distance on the left can be seen the Potomac River. Homes, other buildings, a smokestack and clock tower can also be seen.
