Call for entries: Staff Photo Contest 2012
WHAT: The Smithsonian Staff Photo Contest 2012, sponsored by the Smithsonian Community Committee. This contest and its resulting exhibition later this year in the S. Dillon Ripley Center will showcase the photographic talent and diverse work and interests of Smithsonian staff.
WHO: All Smithsonian staff, volunteers, fellows and interns are encouraged to submit their photographic work to this contest.
WHEN: Entries should be submitted electronically by Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012. Winning entries will go on view in a special exhibition in the Ripley Center in December 2012.
JUDGES: Ken Ashton, photographer & technician at the Corcoran Gallery of Art; Sarah Kennel, curator of photographs at the National Gallery of Art; and Dean Kessmann, photographer & professor of art at the George Washington University.
CATEGORIES: Images may be submitted under two broad categories: Smithsonian related and non-Smithsonian related images. Under these two categories entries will be organized under the headings: people, places and objects. Contest judges will pick the top six photographs from each category heading and determine first, second and third place rankings and 3 honorable mentions. Of the 36 winners, one photograph will be selected as Best of Show.
GUIDELINES: Submitted entries can be either color or black and white. Only two entries will be allowed per person. Please submit only one entry per person per category heading. All contest prints must be submitted electronically. By entering this contest you certify that the photographs you submit are yours and that you grant the Smithsonian the right to copy, publish and display them in conjunction with this contest.
Winners will be contacted and requested to have exhibition-quality prints produced for inclusion in an exhibition in the S. Dillon Ripley Center. Upon receipt, all prints will be matted and framed and displayed in the Staff Photo Contest exhibition. Following the exhibition the framed prints will be presented to their owners.
