April is Volunteer Appreciation Month. We’re putting some of our valued volunteers in the Spotlight as a way of saying thank you. Meet Dan Rodgers.

Dan has been a docent at the Air and Space Museum’s Udvar-Hazy Center for about four years.

“The best part of volunteering is sharing my enthusiasm with knowledgeable visitors and  inspiring those experiencing this history for the first time,” he says. “One of my most memorable moments was when a ten-year-old boy rattled off the names of the original seven astronauts.

“Recently I was finishing my tour at the SR-71 and ran into a gentleman who served in the Air Force and programmed the inertial guidance system on our aircraft. He actually had photos that he had taken of taking off in England.”

Thanks for all you do for the Smithsonian, Dan!
