What highway runs through the U.S. but can’t be traveled by car?
Nam June Paik’s “Electronic Superhighway: Continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii.” This 49-channel, closed-circuit video installation is on display at the American Art Museum. It suggests the enormous scale of the nation that confronted the young Korean artist when he arrived in the U.S. in 1964.

The President of South Korea, Park Geun-hye, recently toured the Smithsonian American Art Museum. She is seen here (center) flanked by Smithsonian Secretary Wayne Clough and American Art Museum Director Betsy Broun in an image broadcast on Korean television. Looks like this highway crosses oceans, as well!
