National Portrait Gallery
David Ward has been appointed Senior Historian of the National Portrait Gallery. He will oversee the museum’s historians and create exhibitions and programming. Ward was one of the co-curators of the acclaimed Hide/Seek exhibition of gay portraiture in 2011 and is an accomplished poet. One of his most recent exhibitions for NPG, “Poetic Likeness: Modern American Poets,” made its esoteric subject engaging and comprehensible, without skimping on the poetry.
Office of the Inspector General
Former counsel to the Inspector General Epin Christensen has been named Acting Inspector General of the Smithsonian. She replaces Scott Dahl, who is now the Inspector General for the Department of Labor.
Freer and Sackler Galleries
Public Affairs Specialist Amanda Williams has accepted a new position as communications manager for Design Miami, an Art Basel corollary focused on modern collectible design.
