February 21, 1984 Milo Cleveland Beach, a scholar of Indian Art and chair of the Department of Art at Williams College, becomes the director of the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, a component of the Center for African, Near Eastern and Asian Cultures.

    • James Webb was also honored as part of the moniker for a satellite currently orbiting earth outside the moon’s orbit. The James Webb Microwave Anisotropy Probe, WMAP for short, has been gathering data since 2001 about temperature variations in the cosmic microwave background (anisotropy means lack of sameness). This probe and its data led astronomers a couple years ago to confirm the big bang and to pinpoint the age of our universe, among other important findings.
