Each year, through the work of our talented and committed education staff and Affiliate organizations, the Smithsonian shares the breadth and depth of its research and collections with more than 8 million learners and educators around the world.

To ensure that our educational offerings align with the work of our museums and research centers, the staff and the five units that currently make up the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Education and Access—Smithsonian Affiliations, Smithsonian Associates, Smithsonian Center for Learning and Digital Access, Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, and Smithsonian Science Education Center—will be detailed to the Office of the Provost/Under Secretary for Museums and Research.

Patricia Bartlett will continue in her leadership role for the staff and the five units with the new title of Associate Provost for Education and Access and Senior Advisor to the Secretary.

Bartlett became Acting Assistant Secretary for Education and Access in April 2016, after serving as the Institution’s Senior Advisor for Higher Education Initiatives. Before that, she was Chief of Staff to Secretary Wayne Clough and Acting Secretary Al Horvath. She was the Director of Federal Relations at Georgia Tech for 11 years before coming to the Smithsonian.
