January 4, 1980 A small collection of works and memorabilia highlighting the career of the American artist and illustrator Howard Chandler Christy(1873-1952) famous for the creation of the “Christy Girl,” opens at the National Portrait Gallery. The Six Darlings on the Float shows several examples of Christy’s “rosy-cheeked “ girls.
