Duggal was appointed deputy director of the Hirshhorn in February 2015, having served as acting deputy director since June 2014. Prior to her transition to the Hirshhorn, Duggal held joint positions as associate director for public engagement of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History and as director of the Smithsonian’s International Museum Professional Education Program.

At the National Museum of Natural History, Duggal led all aspects of public engagement for the Museum. With a staff of 90 and multiple contractors, she directed planning and development of all museum exhibitions, educational programs, public affairs, marketing, visitor services and digital media and managed multimillion-dollar budgets. Duggal’s fundraising efforts led to tens of millions of dollars in gifts to the Museum.

As director of the Smithsonian’s International Museum Professional Education Program, Duggal spearheaded partnerships that made the Smithsonian’s unparalleled expertise and resources available to organizations in the U.S. and around the world, including the Middle East, Asia and Latin America. While at the Hirshhorn, she will continue to support these programs.

Duggal began her Smithsonian service in 2000 as the associate director for museum resources at the National Museum of the American Indian, where she was responsible for the Museum’s planning, management and coordination of financial and human resources.
