Alvarez joins NMAI’s marketing and communications team
Marielba Alvarez, public relations specialist at the National Portrait Gallery, will join the marketing and communications staff of the the National Museum of the American Indian August 20. From the Mall museum, she will help promote NMAI to Washington, D.C. audiences and media and will assist with social media and marketing.
Marielba has more than 10 years of experience in media outreach, public relations and marketing, and is bilingual in English and Spanish. She joined the Portrait Gallery staff in 2015 to reach out to Hispanic media for all events and programs. During her tenure at NPG she has help create a completely new audience for NPG’s programs and exhibitions. Most recently, she has worked on the museum’ new gala program and the high-profile unveilling of the portraits of former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama.
Prior to joining the Portrait Gallery, Marielba spent a decade at the Venezuelan Embassy where, in addition to building a media list for the embassy, she also served as a journalist and producer for VTV. She translated articles into Spanish and English for respective internal audiences.
Marielba has a Bachelor’s Degree in social communications with a specialization in journalism. She graduated with honors from Fermin Toro University (Venezuela).
