Today in Smithsonian History: September 5, 2006

September 5, 2006 The National Museum of American History closes for renovation. However, many of its most popular and iconic objects, including C-3PO and R2-D2 from the movie Star Wars, will be available for visitors to view in a temporary exhibition, “America’s Treasures,” at the National Air and Space Museum.
