2018 Winter Card Contest

The Smithsonian is an inspiring place, full of talented and creative people. Here is your chance to share a bit of the wonder of working here with our friends and colleagues across the globe.

Winter Card Contest poster

Secretary David Skorton and Dr. Robin Davisson are asking the Smithsonian community for help in designing the 2018 Smithsonian winter greeting card. Be creative and use your imagination to capture the essence of the Smithsonian in an artwork, animation or photograph that can be transformed into an e-card. Submit your own design or team up with your colleagues. A panel of staff judges will help the Secretary and Dr. Davisson identify the best designs.

The creator(s) of the selected design will be credited on the card and will be invited to discuss their design at a special event with the Secretary and Dr. Davisson.
Everyone in the Smithsonian community is encouraged to participate and all submissions are welcome, with one proviso: Dare to be different!

Last year’s winner was “Peace Dove,” created by the children of the Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center (ages 3 to 6) and submitted by art educator Carolyn Eby.

Please submit your original design or composition as a digital file to wintercard@si.edu no later than Nov. 28.

Submissions should be high resolution, and files should be no more than 10 MB in size. Be sure to tell us a little about your inspiration, too!
