Rosh Patel is Washington D.C.’s filmmaker of the Month

Washington, D.C.’s Office of Cable, Television, Film, Music and Entertainment has named Roshan Patel, media producer for the National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute, Filmmaker of the Month for March 2019. The Filmmaker of the Month initiative is part of OCTFME’s mission to elevate the national and international profile of the District’s talented filmmakers.

Patel’s series, “Field in Focus”is an official selection in the D.C. Environmental Film Festival March 14 – 24. The video series from the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute, focuses on the research scientists are doing in the field to understand how zoonotic diseases make the leap from animal to human.

Animal health and human health are connected. Seventy-five percent of emerging infectious diseases begin in wildlife species and jump to humans. Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute veterinarians with the Global Health Program are studying infectious disease in different species to help prevent and predict pandemics.
