May 11, 1990 A sculpted bust of Secretary Emeritus S. Dillon Ripley is unveiled in the S. Dillon Ripley International Center. The Walker Hancock sculpture honors Ripley for his 20-year tenure as Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution and for initiating the ‘Quadrangle Project,’ which included the S. Dillon Ripley International Center, the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, the National Museum of African Art and the Enid A. Haupt Garden.
