May 29, 1978 A comprehensive code of ethics for the nation’s museum community—the first revision since 1925—was adopted unanimously by the American Association of Museums. The convention voted approval of the 30-page document after Paul N. Perrot, Assistant Secretary for Museum Programs at the Smithsonian, urged its adoption by the Association. Museum Ethics elaborated on relationships among staff, management and governing authority, while reflecting a new concentration in the museum profession on scholarship and methodology.
