Designing woman: Neuhold-Ravikumar brings a fresh perspective to education
Provost John Davis has announced that Ruki Neuhold-Ravikumar will become the Smithsonian’s Interim Associate Provost for Education and Access, effective November 11.
Neuhold-Ravikumar is currently the Director of Education at Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, where she has drawn from her international experiences in practice and teaching to develop innovative programs for diverse audiences nationwide. She brings her love of design and education to her role as the leader of a dynamic team that strives to inspire, educate and empower.
“Ruki will be instrumental in the pan-Institutional effort to increase our impact and relevance for learners and educators across the world,” said Cooper Hewitt Director Caroline Baumann, “and we look forward to having the Cooper Hewitt design perspective injected into Smithsonian ways of thinking and working.”
Prior to joining the Smithsonian in 2017, Neuhold-Ravikumar, an award-winning designer, was Associate Dean and professor of graphic design at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Oklahoma. She has served in leadership roles at all levels of the American Institute of Graphic Arts, and in 2015, was awarded the title of AIGA Fellow for her advocacy and leadership as a design educator.
“Education for me is synonymous with possibility,” said Neuhold-Ravikumar. “It is an honor to have the opportunity to guide and shape the educational voice of the Smithsonian. I am very grateful for the support and encouragement of Secretary Bunch, Provost Davis and Caroline Baumann to take on the role of Acting Associate Provost.”
Neuhold-Ravikumar assumes the responsibilities of Patricia Bartlett, former Associate Provost for Education and Access, who retired at the end of September.
