December 22, 1976 “John White Alexander (1856-1915),” opens at the National Collection of Fine Arts, now the National Museum of American Art. The exhibition includes watercolors, drawings, illustrations and oils, creating the first comprehensive exhibition of Alexander’s work in 60 years, from his portraits of women to mural designs.
