Sidedoor: Adam Rippon’s Olympic Mesh-capades

It’s cold enough for ice-skating, so here’s a conversation with Olympic medal-winner Adam Rippon who shares stories of wardrobe malfunctions, the cost of fame and the male private part we didn’t realize was private.

When professional athletes reach the peak of their careers, many look ahead with uncertainty and wonder, “What’s next?” But when Adam Rippon stood on the Olympic podium in 2018, making history as the first openly gay American to medal at the winter Olympics, he was sure about his next steps. Rippon was already a darling of the American Olympic media, joking through interviews and willing to speak candidly about his personal journey.
