COVID-19 Update: Badging and ID Office

Due to the current COVID-19 situation and enhanced teleworking initiated by the Smithsonian Institution, any staff member (employee, trust, contractor, affiliate, etc.) that has a credential or badge that is due to expire before May 31, 2020, can have it extended by following the instructions below:

  1. The staff member whose Smithsonian badge is expiring shall contact their SPONSOR to inform them of the expiration date.
  2. The SPONSOR of the staff member shall email the staff member’s full name to OPS-PSO@si.edu, with “COVID-19 Badge Renewal” in the subject line.
  3. Upon receipt of the email, the Personnel Security and ID Office staff shall extend expiration date of the badge to May 31, 2020.
  4. The Personnel Security and ID Office will respond back to the sponsor that the credential or badge has been extended till May 31, 2020.
  5. The form normally required for credential/badge renewal, Application for Identification Credential Form (SI-4008), shall not be required for the extension.
