If “clothes make the man,” then school dress codes can help make (or break) the girl—and her reputation.

Dress codes for school girls designed to impose propriety have been around a long time: from the days of knee-length gym bloomers and miniskirts being measured with rulers, to prohibitions against exposed shoulders or yoga pants. While the specifics of what girls can wear to school have changed…the purpose of the dress codes have not.
