Celebrate Earth Day(s) at FUTURES

Celebrate Earth Day and the FUTURES with us April 22-24th!

A blue banner reads Earth Days at Futures, A sustainability Celebration. Friday, April 22-Sunday April 24. At the right, gardening items and food are displayed in a circle. In honor of Earth Day and the exhibition “FUTURES,” the teams at AIB and Smithsonian Gardens are excited to share these upcoming opportunities to renew, reduce, recycle and reinspire our love for the world and its living ecosystems.

  • First, starting today, you can charge up your batteries (and yourself) at the new solar-powered Recharge Stations in the Haupt Garden. Inspired by the plants surrounding them, these recycled and recyclable solar panel gazebos have a reusable working life of nearly 50 generations, and will have outlets for phones and laptops, spots to charge electric gardening equipment, a cooling fan, and more.
  • All Earth Day weekend April 22–24, AIB is keeping it green for Earth Days @ FUTURES, a sustainability celebration for all ages. Friday night (on Earth Day proper) join us for a special Fridays@Futures 5:30–7 PM to tour earth-friendly art, innovations, and inventions that could help solve big challenges. On Saturday and Sunday, you’re invited to take action by tasting tomorrow at a FUTURES Food Market (mushrooms and crickets and acai, oh my!) or getting moving at an energy-efficient silent disco. You can also enjoy a community biodegradable living art wall, get your hands dirty at a bike maintenance station, pick up seeds to take home, and take a VR tour through the future of water and learn how your choices matter. Plus, hear directly from innovators who are heading up the charge to build a sustainable future for two areas with huge climate impact: transportation and energy.

New solar-powered recharging stations are shown outside in the Haupt Garden, next to the the Arts and Industries building.
