Secretary Tweets Appreciation

Even though Volunteer Appreciation Month is coming to a close, we’re still celebrating! Yesterday, Secretary Bunch shared his gratitude for our volunteers on social media. Check out his tweets here.

Secretary Bunch tweets, "Volunteers power the Smithsonian's mission. This #Volunteer Appreciation Month, I join everyone across the Smithsonian in celebrating the thousands of volunteers who serve in many capacities, both on-site and virtually." Below his words are two pictures; on the left, three museum visitors stand in front of a television screen and the space shuttle at Udvar-Hazy Center; on the right, four volunteers, wearing masks, stand at the information desk at the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Secretary Bunch continues his message with a second tweet that reads, "Each volunteer makes a unique, important contribution. As we re-open many of our on-site volunteer programs, we are excited to welcome both familiar and new faces." Below this message are two pictures; on the left, a Zoo volunteer sweeps the tortoise enclosure while two large tortoises walk beside the volunteer; on the right, fifteen volunteers, from Smithsonian Associates, on a video call hold up hand-made signs that say thank you.

The Secretary’s second tweet highlights the variety of duties our volunteers take on.

For his final tweet, Secretary Bunch shares, "Learn more about volunteer opportunities at Smithsonian: si.edu/volunteer" Below his final message, there are two pictures; on the left, a volunteer with Smithsonian Gardens, wearing a hat and gardening gloves, stands in a plant bed; on the right, a mask-wearing volunteer at the National Museum of American History stands in a museum gallery, behind a cart, ready to engage with visitors.
