2022 Smithsonian Employee Satisfaction Survey

We want to hear from you!

I am pleased to announce the launch of the 2022 Smithsonian Employee Perspective Survey (SEPS). Each year, SEPS is an opportunity for you to express your views about working at the Smithsonian and at your organization.  Your responses over time have provided the Institution with valuable feedback on our overall work environment, and I highly encourage you to complete the survey and share your candid feedback.  We will post the overall results of the survey online this fall.

This week, every employee who has been with the Smithsonian for at least three months will receive an email invitation to participate. While the survey was conducted in the fall the past two years due to the pandemic, the Federal government is returning to its past practice of conducting the survey earlier in the year.  The survey is available in both English and Spanish

My leadership team and I know how important it is for us to assess our anti-harassment efforts, and we have included specific questions related to those efforts this year.

The results of the survey have helped shape our strategic workforce initiatives.  For example, improving administrative processes was a clear theme in past results, and we launched initiatives to strengthen hiring, build flexible workplace practices, and increase professional development opportunities. Your responses will be used by the leaders of your organizations to develop action plans specific to the needs of your units.

As always, your responses will remain confidential; reported information will not be traceable back to you as individuals unless you choose to include personally identifying information in your written comments. If you work in a unit that receives more than 10 respondents to the survey, your director will share unit-level results with you in a format tailored to your organization. Directors leading organizations with fewer than 10 respondents will provide Institution-level information.

I appreciate all you do for the Smithsonian, and I look forward to learning from your responses.
