Help the Anacostia Community Museum celebrate its 55th anniversary
Be a part of Portraits By The People, a new initiative from the Anacostia Community Museum
Since its founding in 1967, the Smithsonian’s Anacostia Community Museum has been powered by the people and stories of the Washington, D.C. region. In celebration of the museum’s 55th anniversary, ACM is asking residents of the D.C. Metro area to submit pictures of themselves in their communities as the museum looks to its next 55 years and beyond! Portraits by the People continues the museum’s tradition of preserving and celebrating the local stories which make up our diverse neighborhoods.
Deadline is September 15
Select images will be showcased as projections on the side of the museum’s building on the evening of September 15, as well as on the ACM’s social media platforms throughout the summer of 2022.
Here’s our special request for our Smithsonian colleagues
We would be so grateful if you would help us with our anniversary project. When you’re planning your portrait we would love for you to show your life at the Smithsonian!
Be creative and include your work at SI in your portrait!
Here are some ideas:
- Portrait of you at work
- Picture of you and your favorite artifact
- Photo of you and your co-workers
- Picture of your family or friends visiting you at work
