Entertainment Nation is an enriching experience for volunteers

Earlier this week, the Office of Visitor Services hosted its February Smithsonian Volunteer Enrichment program, Entertainment Nation. During the program, curators Dr. Krystal Klingenberg and Dr. John Troutman discussed the origins and development of the National Museum of American History’s first permanent exhibition on entertainment.

Opened in December of 2022, the exhibition explores how over the last 150 years, entertainment has amplified important national conversations about society, politics, and what it means to be American. Drs. Klingenberg and Troutman shared the curatorial team’s strategies for visitor engagement, the exhibition’s unique challenges, and some favorite object stories.
