Open House preview for staff at the newly renovated Bird House March 2

The Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute team invites all Smithsonian staff to a special open house preview of our newly renovated Bird House exhibit on March 2 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Be one of the first to see the Bird House exhibit before it opens to the public March 13.

Due to capacity restrictions, this event will be limited to SI staff. We will be unable to accommodate volunteers on this day. Once the Bird House opens to the public on March 13, we encourage volunteers to visit the Zoo and reserve free entry passes onsite to visit the Bird House.

What: NZCBI’s Bird House Exhibit Open House

When: Thursday, March 2, 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Who: SI staff

Registration: Click here and apply promo code “SIDay” then choose your entry time (offered in 15-minute intervals). You must have a pass and show your SI badge for entry.

Shuttle: Shuttle services will be provided from the NMNH shuttle stop to the Zoo starting at 10 a.m. and running on a 45-minute continuous loop. Last departure from NMNH is 2:30 p.m. and from the Zoo at 3 p.m. NZCBI is conveniently located between Metro stops for anyone departing the Zoo after 3 p.m. 

• NMNH to Zoo: 10:00, 10:45, 11:30, 12:15, 1:00, 1:45, 2:30
• Zoo to NMNH: 11:10, 11:50, 12:40, 1:25, 2:10, 3:00

Parking: Use your SI badge along with your Bird House pass for free parking on March 2, 2023.

Demonstrations

• Visit the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center and Bird Friendly coffee info booth on the Bird Observatory Deck from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
• Observe science in action as researchers demonstrate bird banding on the Bird Observatory Deck from 10:30 – 10:45 a.m.
• Join scientists in the Bird Observatory for a birding expedition at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 1:30 p.m. (weather dependent)
