OSHEM COVID Program Update: The National Capital Region drops to LOW community COVID levels

COVID-19 and the Way Ahead

As D.C. and many surrounding counties have dropped to Low CDC Community COVID Levels, we are moving the facilities in the National Capital Region to Low beginning Monday, February 6. An SI Wide announcing this change will be sent on Monday morning.

Elsewhere, our facilities in Hawaii, Arizona, and Panama are also in Low. Locations in New York City, Boston, and Ft. Pierce, FL remain in Medium. Please advise your staff that they must follow the requirements of the region in which they are working. The COVID website always displays the most current SI Regional COVID Levels.

Signage: In Low, signage noting the recommended health precautions is not required. You are welcome to leave the signs up. If you remove them, please store them at your facility in a place that will allow easy access to re-post them should we move to Medium again in the near future.

Masks: Please remember that the Smithsonian remains a mask-friendly environment and anyone who wishes to wear one to further protect themselves may do so in all COVID Levels. High-quality masks, including KN95s and N95 respirators, are available for staff use via the SF Logistics Cell.

Supply Request Form: Smithsonian continues to provide COVID health and safety supplies at the request of units. The type of supplies available has been updated on the supply order form, available on the COVID website (see the button at the bottom of the right-hand column). Safety Coordinators should submit requests on behalf of their units. Questions about supplies can be directed to the SF Logistics Cell at SF-SI-Supply-Team@si.edu.

Daily Health Screening: As always, staff should conduct daily health screenings before coming to work and should stay home if they feel unwell. We encourage the use of telework for eligible staff who are symptomatic but feel well enough to work. As has always been the case when ill, staff who are too sick to work should take personal leave (sick leave, annual leave, etc.). Further questions about leave can be directed to the OHR Policy Team at OHR-Policy@si.edu.

If you have questions, please contact the OSHEM COVID Program at SI-CoronavirusInfo@si.edu.

Thank you,

OSHEM COVID Program
