Building a Movement: The fight against environmental injustice

The communities where people of color live have long been treated as dumping grounds—we have a history of clustering heavy industry, toxic facilities and pollution creators in neglected neighborhoods.

But in the 1980s, a series of events sparked a movement to fight back against this kind of environmental injustice. In this episode of Sidedoor, we trace the history of the environmental justice movement from the farmlands of North Carolina to a watershed moment in the nation’s capital.
