Earich has more than 15 years of experience, having begun her volunteer career in Ukraine with the United States Peace Corps. After two years in Ukraine, Earich decided to focus her purpose, passion, and skills to work with the goal of enacting positive change in the lives of others. From 2009 to 2012, she served as the Coordinator of Volunteers for Health Services at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science; in 2012 she accepted a position as National Programs Manager in Community Engagement for College Summit, which led her to the Smithsonian in 2015 as OVS’s Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator.

Abbey’s exceptional leadership extends beyond the OVS office, as she has spearheaded pan-institutional Initiatives, showcasing her ability to collaborate seamlessly across units. She successfully led the institution in implementing VSys, a single-platform solution to better support our volunteers and volunteer managers, streamlining data management for improved efficiency. Additionally, her leadership in managing the Change Control Team ensures seamless adaptation to evolving requirements and guarantees the database’s continued success. And lastly, but most notably, her invaluable role while serving on the Smithsonian’s Reopening Task Force during the pandemic exemplifies her commitment to the units by ensuring compliance with evolving policies and planning for the strategic return of volunteers to our sites.

“Abbey’s expertise and dedication are not only admired, but also essential to the continued success of OVS,” said OVS Director Kristi Delich. “Please join me in congratulating Abbey and welcoming her to this new role.”
