Congratulations to Katelynn Kemp of the Smithsonian National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute!

Katelynn is the winner of the summer Windows Lock Screen Photo Contest with an adorable composition of Motsi the cheetah cub.

Motsi was born at the National Zoo & Conservation Biology Institute in Front Royal, Virginia, September 12, 2023, to female Echo, as one of her second litter. Motsi’s sire is Flash, a male cheetah imported from the Toronto Zoo in 2019. Motsi has four siblings—two brothers and two sisters. Male cheetahs live in coalitions, and Motsi and his brothers will stay together in their coalition for life.

The new lock screen will be in place on all SI-managed Windows computers until September.

Submit your photo

Each season, the Office of the Chief Information Officer installs a custom image on SI-managed Windows computers as the lock screen. This custom image is necessary to block Microsoft advertising on your desktop and creates a fun and exciting opportunity for Smithsonian professional and amateur photographers alike to showcase their photography. Staff can submit up to two photos throughout the quarter, and the top submissions will be open for an Institution-wide vote.

This quarter OCIO received more than 168 submissions! Due to the amount of interest, OCIO has modified the requirements for the contest to no more than two entries person. Review the Lock Screen Photo Contest page for all the photo submission requirements.

The submission deadline for autumn is September 6.
