Congratulations to Alice Tangerini!
Alice is the winner of the OCIO Winter Windows Lock Screen Photo Contest with this beautiful shot of the Smithsonian Castle.
Alice Tangerini is a botanical illustrator with the Department of Botany at the National Museum of Natural History. She describes her winning photo: “I took this photograph one summer evening as a spontaneous response to noticing a thunderstorm ending and the setting sun coming out at the same time. My office faces northwest so I knew that a possible rainbow would be visible close to the opposite side. I ran with my iPhone to the furthest east and south window on the 5th floor where a couple of researchers were still working. One of the researchers […] said I could use her window to take this view of the rainbow. As I was taking the pictures I noticed the second rainbow appearing. A serendipitous opportunity!”
The new lock screen will be in place on all SI-managed Windows computers until March. OCIO wholeheartedly thanks everyone who voted. Congratulations once again to Alice!
Submit your Photo to the Windows Lock Screen Photo Contest
Each season, the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) installs a custom image on SI-managed Windows computers for the lock screen. This custom image is necessary to block Microsoft advertising on your desktop and creates a fun and exciting opportunity for Smithsonian professional and amateur photographers alike to showcase their photography. Staff can submit up to two photos throughout the quarter, and the top submissions will be open for an Institution-wide vote.
Review the Lock Screen Photo Contest page for all the photo submission requirements. The submission deadline for Spring is Friday, March 7th.
