Secretary Lonnie Bunch announced today that Anne Brachman, currently the Sr. Vice President of External Affairs at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, will join the Smithsonian as the Director of the Office of Government Relations, effective March 24.

“As we all know,” Bunch said, “the support of Congress is critical to our day-to-day operations and to enabling our mission. Anne has successfully driven legislative and funding priorities for different organizations.”

“Anne is a well-respected leader on Capitol Hill with strong relationships on both sides of the aisle”

At CPB, Brachman oversees government affairs, external engagement and communications. Prior to CPB, she was a Manager for International and Government Affairs at the Telecommunications Industry Association, a trade association that represents global telecommunications equipment manufacturers.

Brachman started her career in Washington D.C., working for Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama and later serving as Legislative Director for Rep. Jeff Miller of Florida. She has a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications from the University of Florida and a Master of Public Policy degree from George Mason University.

“Anne is a well-respected leader on Capitol Hill with strong relationships on both sides of the aisle and significant experience navigating Congress, legislative priorities and public policy,” Bunch continued. “As the Smithsonian’s Director of Government of Relations, she will be responsible for promoting and strengthening the Smithsonian’s relationship with Congress, the executive branch and federal, state and local governments. Under her leadership, she will ensure that policymakers understand the important work of the Smithsonian, the value it brings to the American people, and its impact in the U.S. and around the world.”

Brachman succeeds Rachelle Graves who served as OGR director from 2023-2024 and is now a senior advisor to Julissa Marenco, Assistant Secretary for Communications and External Affairs/Chief Marketing Officer.
