Coping with change
There are many changes happening throughout the Federal sector, and change can sometimes be overwhelming mentally and emotionally. The Office of Human Resources reminds all employees that the Smithsonian’s Employee Assistance Program stands ready to help.
Smithsonian Employee Assistance Program
The EAP is a confidential counseling resource available to all employees (trust or federal, part-time or full-time, including fellows and interns). EAP counselors are experienced mental health professionals who can assist in navigating difficult times.
Our SI EAP staff may be contacted directly via email or phone:
- Tim Holloman, EAP Manager: 202-633-1054; hollomant@si.edu
- Debbie Burney, Senior EAP Counselor: 202-633-1099; burnede@si.edu

Inova Employee Assistance Program
We are also reminding staff about our external EAP partner, Inova EAP. Employees may also contact Inova for mental health counseling.
Our Inova EAP partner can be contacted at 800-346-0110. When contacting Inova, please identify yourself as a Smithsonian employee and ask for counseling assistance. You may even request to speak with a therapist who speaks another language, or request a certain specialty, e.g., depression, anxiety, or marriage & family counseling.
Our Inova EAP partner has a very informative website: Inova Employee Assistance Program.
The username is: Smithsonian
The password is: EAP
Crisis and Suicide Hotline
Additionally, please remember the National Crisis and Suicide Hotline number is 988.
