Staff Picnic is Monday, July 2, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Here is a sneak peek of what the picnic committee has lined up for you!

Music Tents:  Check out the full musical line-up on the SCC website, and be sure to come out to cheer on your colleagues as they rock the Mall from the Panorama Room Stage and the Morrill Center Stage.  We’ve got some great talent this year!

Smithsonian Stories:  Stop by the Smithsonian U Tent to hear fascinating tales about life at the Smithsonian.

Smithsonian Research Showcase:  The Smithsonian Congress of Scholars will host its annual Research Tent at the Red Hot Performance Stage.

Fitness at Fun at the SHAPE Tent:  The SHAPE program will feature yoga, Zumba, dance and exercise programs at the University of Illinois Tent.  Come on down and burn off that lunch!

Alumni Program and Volunteer Meet-Up:  The Smithsonian Alumni Program and the Smithsonian Volunteers will join forces to host a Meet-Up in the Texas A&M Tent.  Stop by to connect with colleagues and learn about our exciting Alumni Program.

Smithsonian Tours by Segway Free Test Glides:  To celebrate the new licensing partnership between the Smithsonian and Segway, Smithsonian Tours by Segway will be offering FREE test-glides during the Picnic.  Come by the north side of the Creativity and Crisis plot to take a free demo and find out more about the Smithsonian-branded tours on the Mall.

The Picnic Goes Green!  The Food vendors will be using compostable and/or recyclable disposable products.  Members of the Smithsonian Green Team will be out in force at the meal venues to pilot a composting and recycling program.  Volunteers will help you sort your refuse into appropriate containers (for recycling, compostable organics and land fill waste).  The compost will be removed from the Mall within hours to a composting facility in Virginia.  Come to the Picnic, Help Save the Planet!

AIDS Memorial Quilt Smithsonian Quilting Bee:  In commemoration of the 25TH anniversary of the Names Project Memorial Quilt and its appearance in the 2012 Folklife Festival, a team of volunteers is creating a Smithsonian quilt panel.  The panel creators are volunteers and staff from all around the Smithsonian–in other words, you.  The project is designed to accommodate everyone who wants to participate, no matter their skill level.  If you can paint, sew or crochet, come join us.  Even if you can’t sew on a button, you can still help with the project; we have a number of tasks, great and small.  Our goal is to have at least 100 members of our Smithsonian community participate in the creation of our panel.

Food:   The Festival food this year is terrific.  Check out the Menus on the SCC Website.  You should have already received your meal tickets from your unit director.  (As always, contractors and other non-SI Staff guests may purchase food on site from the Festival Vendors.)

WEBSITE:  Please visit the Smithsonian Community Committee website for Picnic schedule, maps, and menu information: https://collab.si.edu/sites/SI/SCC/default.aspx.  While there, check out the other great programming the Community Committee provides throughout the year.
