The Smithsonian American Art Museum has announced that Abraham Thomas will join the museum staff’s as curator in charge of its Renwick Gallery. He will start in the new position on October 31.

“We welcome Abraham Thomas, who will expand on the Renwick’s new directions and established traditions,” director of the Smithsonian American Art Museum Betsy Broun said. “His deep knowledge of art and craft, management experience and history of transformational leadership are all significant for the Renwick’s future.”

During his tenure as director of the Sir John Soane’s Museum in London from 2013 to 2015, Thomas oversaw a major restoration project.
