Georgetown VP joins Office of Human Resources

Brenda Richardson Malone has been named the Director of the Office of Human Resources, effective Dec. 11. She succeeds Jim Douglas, who retired from the position in June.

Malone is currently the Vice President for Human Resources and Chief Human Resources Officer at Georgetown University. She is responsible for planning, guiding, and directing Georgetown’s human resources programs and services for all staff and non-faculty administrators. Her areas of responsibility include recruitment, staffing, labor and employee relations, classification and compensation, professional development, HR information systems, and the university’s employee assistance program.

Before coming to Georgetown, Malone was the Vice Chancellor for Human Resources (2009-2014) and the Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources (2007-2009) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was responsible for delivering human resources services to the university’s 8,000 non-faculty employees and administrators, including benefits administration, employee relations, classification and compensation, work-life programs, and training and development.

From 1993 to 2007, Malone served as Vice Chancellor for Faculty and Staff Relations at The City University of New York (CUNY). At CUNY, she developed and administered the standards, rules, and policies that guided the human resources and labor relations functions for the university system’s then 20 campuses and professional schools, more than 200,000 students, and 30,000 full- and part-time employees.

Malone received her bachelor’s degree from Swarthmore College, in Swarthmore, Pa., and her law degree from Hofstra University School of Law in Hempstead, N.Y. She is active in several professional organizations and sits on the National Board of the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources and is a member of the Governing Body of the Washington, D.C. CHRO Leadership Summit.
