December 10, 1974 The Executive Committee of the Smithsonian Institution approves, in principle, the establishment of an on-site learning center for the children of Smithsonian staff. Joyce R. Manes, Learning Center Coordinator, takes responsibility for developing and implementing the program. The center will later be named the Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center.
