COVID-19 Update: Testing Resources and Information

Banner showing COVID-19 virus

Testing for COVID-19 continues to be difficult, but progress is being made and more testing sites are becoming available across the country. If you are sick, please first discuss getting tested with your healthcare provider. They should be able to help you navigate the testing requirements and procedures in your locality.

For your reference, included below are helpful links to information on COVID-19 testing (including lists of testing sites where available) in U.S. areas where Smithsonian has a presence. Each state and/or locality has different criteria for who can be tested, so please work with your doctor and review your local guidelines regarding testing steps and requirements.

For more information on what to do if you receive a positive COVID-19 test result, please read this document.

Also, please be aware that there are, unfortunately, several current scams involving fraudulent COVID-19 tests and treatments. Be especially wary of door-to-door test kit sales, any person or testing facility that does not accept insurance, or being told over the phone that you have to be tested for COVID-19 and must provide your insurance or financial information. While a representative from the Smithsonian COVID-19 Response Team or a local health department might contact you to let you have been exposed to COVID-19, you will not be asked for your financial or insurance information on those phone calls.

To learn more about possible COVID-related scams and how to protect yourself, please read this FBI release or visit this FCC site.

If you have question on these or other COVID-related topics, please email the Response Team resource inbox or visit this website.
