Dear Colleagues,

Emergency Paid Sick Leave, a leave option granted as part of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, will expire at the end of the year. All employees, including essential workers, are entitled to use up to 80 hours of Emergency Paid Sick Leave for certain COVID-19 related reasons. Please note that this leave option will expire on December 31, 2020, so please consider utilizing it as needed before then.

Emergency Paid Sick Leave may be used by employees who must quarantine, are sick with COVID-19 symptoms or have been diagnosed with COVID-19, or who need to care for someone who is sick or quarantined because of COVID-19. It can also be used to care for children if schools or care facilities are closed due to COVID-19. Your compensation during Emergency Paid Sick Leave is linked to the reason you requested this type of leave, but it is important to note that, for the purpose of childcare, your pay will be at 2/3 of your regular pay. To learn more about all qualifying reasons, eligibility, and pay rates, please read this fact sheet.

You may utilize all 80 hours of Emergency Paid Sick Leave at once or intermittently over multiple pay periods. For example, you may only need Emergency Paid Sick Leave a few days a week because of hybrid in-person and virtual schooling schedule.

There are a variety of workplace flexibilities and leave options available to you. Your supervisor and Human Resources Liaison can assist you with understanding the details of Emergency Paid Sick Leave and other options, identifying the best solution based on your individual needs and circumstances, and navigating the approval process.
